How to pick the perfect bag
There are a million factors to consider when choosing a handbag. From materials to shape, from style to purpose, it is definitely not a simple decision so we've broken it down for you in 4 points to consider when picking out the perfect new handbag:
1. Get your Size right.
The size of your bag has got to be proportional to your own body size. Don't carry an oversized bag just because it’s the trend if you are a petit lady. . . You'll just look swamped and burdened. Alternatively, a baguette may not be the best choice if you have height in your favor because it will definitely get lost in your frame.
2. Length: where should the bag sit?
This is perhaps the easiest step to get through when picking out a new bag because there is just one simple rule here that applies: whichever part of your body where the bottom of the bag sits, will be accentuated. So, if your hips are narrow and boyish, a bag that sits on them will make your body shape look more feminine. If your hips lean more towards the heavy side, try a bag which sits at your waist line. This accentuates the tapering of your waist and will make you look slimmer (an added bonus!).
Tip: most body shapes will be complimented by handbags that sit at waist level, so it's not a bad idea to have such a bag amongst your collection.
3. Define your Shape
The best thing to do is to try and choose a handbag which compliments your own body shape. Define your overall shape and choose handbags with features that are on the opposite spectrum. A tall, slim woman would be better served if she chose a handbag which is rounded and slouchy. If, on the other hand, you are short and curvy, a handbag with strong angles will suit you to a T.
4. What do you want this handbag for?
This is definitely the most important factor of all: what do you want this handbag for? Will you use it every day for work and going out? Do you tend to carry around lots of books or gadgets such as a tablet or a laptop? Is this bag to serve a specific purpose like going to a wedding or to a work event? As soon as you know the use you will give your bag, you will have an idea whether you need compartments and pockets, straps and zippers or an open bag.
When you finally find a bag that you like, look inside. Make sure there’s a separate pocket for your phone and a secure area for your wallet or keys. Keeping your stuff safe is a must for every handbag!
